In the flow

Creativity is a fickle friend! Here one moment and gone the next. Unlike the predictable ebb and flow of the tide it disappears without warning sweeping away confidence and leaving behind uncertainty rather than beautiful shells and smooth sea worn pieces of driftwood.

No matter how much you long for it's return, or try to lure it back, creativity can remain stubborn and refuses to join in.

At times like these all I can do in the studio is tidy up and sort things out whilst an empty canvas looks on. Then when no one is watching the spark is suddenly reignited and the tide rushes back and I am drowning in tumbling waves of inspiration and creative turmoil.

I grab the opportunity to splash something on to that empty canvas as true to the nature of creativity these moments can be short lived! For a while I can be haunted through the night by creative voices that won't be silenced long enough to allow sleep to wash over me. During the day the studio calls to me with a voice that I cannot ignore. Time flies, dinner is late and the studio is in chaos. The artist's dog snoozes through it all oblivious to everything.

No time for tidying up when in the flow!

Nothing like snoozing with a dinosaur. When is it dinner time?
